Day 59 in Ethiopia...

es, it’s true. 59 days ago, we arrived in the beautiful land of Ethiopia. I remember walking out of the airport and into the cool night air. I breathed in the air deep, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me. We were finally here. After so many years of hoping to get to this point, that hope was finally becoming reality. We were about to meet our children for the first time. We were about to go from a family of 2 to a family of 4. It seemed almost too good to be true.

And here we are, 59 days later, getting ready to go home. No, we have no guaranteed date of departure yet, but we are still getting ready. About a week ago Wes felt like the Lord said to get ready to go home, just like the Lord told the Israelites to get their sandals on and their belts fastened on the night of Passover. They needed to be ready at any moment to leave. That’s when Wes started to pack our things. Of course we had no clue when we would be able to leave, but we wanted to be obedient to what the Lord had spoken to Wes. So we have two suitcases packed right now, just ready to be thrown on a plane. Do we know anything for sure? No. But we are trusting that God is taking care of everything.

Our hearts are nervous and eager with anticipation. We are so excited to be going home soon. I don’t think either of us has thought much about what it will feel like to leave our home of the last 2 months. We are too excited about the thought of being in our own home at last, and getting to start life with the twins in the States.

Today is a new day filled with hope and promise. We can’t wait to see what happens next.

And here’s a few pics of the twins from yesterday. They took their first bath together in the bathtub. They LOVED it! They couldn’t have been any cuter. Makes me want to give them baths all the time. :)

*Sorry about the partial nudity, but who can resist a picture of a cute baby tushie!

  1. Oh, those bunnies are the cutest!!!
I can NOT believe you've been there that long! How is the embassy process going? Has your paperwork been submitted yet?
We were there 44 nights and were SO ready to come home. VERY ready. But I will tell you that very soon after we arrived here we started mourning Ethiopia in a big way, and we still are. We are thankful and happy to be home and to share Rebeka with our friends and family, but dang. We feel like we left a big part of us there too. It sounds like you are doing an amazing job of making every day count over there. Excited for you!

  2. Wes and Nina,
I've been following your blog for several months and have commented only a few times. But after yesterday and today's pictures, I just have to say- they are absolutely adorable!
Praying that you will feel encouraged and that you will feel God's presence with you during your last few days in Ethiopia and as you bring Alex and Eliana home.
    God Bless,
    Karen

  4. Love the tushie, couldn't be any cuter, but someday he is really going to hate you for that picture, that's when you pull it out and show his girlfriend!

    Love,

  10. What precious pictures, every parent loves the bath tub baby pictures, and yours are awesome! Truly a treasure for many years and great reminder of your time there. We are praying for your return ~ but meanwhile, what an awesome two months of bonding with those kiddos. That is a huge gift to be together, just you and Wes sharing parenthood ~and from previous posts they clearly are already "attached" which will make your initial days in the states so much easier. So happy for you ~ in prayer for your trip home. ~Renae.

  11. Ahhhhh...to be home. Then Ethiopia will be this strange, semi-distant memory that you will miss deeply. The baths? They will continue and you will continue to grow as amazing parents to those beutiful gifts from God!

  12. Nina, you don't know me, but I stumbled across your story on the youtube videos you posted. My sister and her husband are flying to Ethiopia TODAY for their court date early next week. They are meeting their daughter for the first time. I wonder if you will cross paths with her at all. Either way, my heart and prayers are with you and Wes and your beautiful twins. May God truly bless your family in the days and weeks... and years ahead.
